The 'Cred' Rahul Dravid Ad

The hilarious ad from Cred is much more than a meme...

I've seen the ad multiple times for both fun and for the delicate intricacies in it, but when the ad played during the French Open 2021 as we saw Tsitsipas roar against Djokovic, and eventually lost. My mom got hooked to the television for the brief three minutes.

She loved the ad. She even went on to speak more about the 'calm and composed' on field Rahul Dravid, and how this ad perfectly contradicted his true nature. My brother and I listened curiously.

Well, thanks to Tanmay Bhat or Kunal Shah, the CEO of Cred, the ad hit the right target - Bullseye (YAY!).

After writing this blog, I'm going to check the conversion rate of the ad, which I'm sure hit the highest spike ever. Infact, after watching the ad, my mom was so curious about Cred, so curious that she might have downloaded it too..

Comedy ads are tricky, use a wrong word and face reports, protests, or worse yet - a defamation case. Like Harshad Mehta in Scam 1992 sys, 'Risk Hain, Ishq Hain.' Cred took the risk and were probably rewarded much more than the anxiety that might have hit them.

Credit where it is due, the writers - WOW, just wow. The ad is something very subtle while being very extra..

It subtly contradicts with everything Rahul Dravid previously stood for.

  1. His Calm - He broke a rear view window and was shown really angry in the ad (The ad begins with the saying - It is as Ridiculous as to say Rahul Dravid has Anger Issues..).

  2. His Poise - Indranagar ka Gunda Hu Main. Huh, really Cred? We loved it nevertheless.

  3. His 'slow and steady wins the match' formula - In the d he is seen howling - Faster, Faster.

These are just a few! If you watch the ad in detail you may (WILL) find a lot more.

In conclusion, all I want to say is - This ad in its essence was a very creative attempt to grab and retain the viewers attention. Or better yet - It hit a 'Helicopter Shot'.

Hey, that reminds me. We haven't talked about Mahi's IPL ads, have we? They were hilarious, LOL! We should talk about them sometime. Maybe, Next Time..
